September 2026 marks 100 years since the opening of the City and South London Railway underground service through Merton - now better known as the Northern Line.

The Tube service has had a major impact on our borough, from the landscape of Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon and Morden, to the social and economic development of our borough. Its history covers everything from political disputes and the growth of the high street, to the length of the working day, wartime civil defence and the Windrush Generation.
